Today was a technical disaster. Everything seemed to break, and I think it all started with the news that Angelina Jolie said she doesn't know how to turn on a computer. I'm participating in the Qik alpha test. Qik.com makes it possible to stream quality video to the Web from a mobile phone. It's simply amazing. My Qik streams are connected to my Twitter feed. Anytime I'm on, Qik will tweet for me. Imagine if I had it when I met the Woz. Micropod SE is a quite speaker. Fred thought different about salt and pepper shakers and iPod earbuds. SuperDuper is awesome for Mac users. It keeps you safe with a bootable clone of your system disk. I finish up with JoikuSpot. It's an application that turns your S60 phone into a mobile WLAN hotspot. Oh, and then I declared email bankruptcy.

I've had the opportunity to talk with some of the top talkers in the tech world. My all time favorite has to be Patrick Norton. I like him because he talks fast and because he's got that compelling X-factor quality that can't be easily explained or understood. I met up with him at the xTrain.com booth to talk about what to me seems like irrational disappointment in this Macworld's Apple announcements. You can get more Patrick at TekZilla.com, but if you buy a Drobo, you should definitely use promo code "CALI" at DroboStore.comno matter what Patrick says. :)

At the risk of turning off my Windows and Linux friends, I'm over the moon excited about my first Macworld and Steve Jobs keynote. I asked Mr. Keynote attendee, David Pogue for advice. This is our conversation. Sorry Windows people...this next week is probably going to be annoying, unless you want to switch...and I know you do. Go ahead. Let's get her done. Then we can all just relax and talk about working with an amazing OS.
If you don't all switch, it means I have to come back a week from now and be freaking balanced.
We'll be live blogging during the Keynote at www.geekbrief.tv.
We have two meetup oportunities. One is at the Mac Podcaster Meetup on Thursday the 17th, after a panel and audience discussion with Adam Christenson, Dave Hamilton, Victor Cajiao, Leo Laporte, Scott Bourne, and Ken Ray. You have to have a Macworld badge to get into that one. We'll also be having dinner at In-N-Out Burger Wednesday at 6:00 PM. You can show up there, or if you want the full experience, walk with us from the Moscone Center. We'll leave at 5:00 PM. Meet us outside at the front of the Moscone Center. It's a 3 mile walk, so wear comfortable shoes! :) After we eat, we might walk to an Apple Store. All the details are here.
My full Macworld schedule is at geekbrief.tv/macworld. It'll be constantly updated with information about where we'll be and what we'll be doing. You can also follow me on Twitter.com/calilewis for live updates.

Wii FreeLoader gives you region-free gaming without the mods
Wii FreeLoader gives you region-free gaming without the mods

This one has been in the works for a while, but it looks like you can finally pick up your very own region-free enabler for the Wii for $19.99. Wii FreeLoader allows you to play any GameCube or Wii game from any region on your Wii. You just stick the FreeLoader disc into the console, let it spin up, eject the disc and stick in your title of choice -- like Super Smash Bros. Brawl, for instance, or some cooking-related title. Since there's no hardware modding required, this one theoretically won't void your warranty, but who's to say how Nintendo will treat you if you somehow break your Wii with it, and there's always the fear that Nintendo will hit your Wii with a mandatory software update that breaks FreeLoader, so proceed with caution. Or don't, so much confusing entertainment awaits you![Via Wii News]

Magnetic and NEC partner to deliver 3D sans glasses
Magnetic and NEC partner to deliver 3D sans glasses
While calling it the holy grail of 3D may be a stretch, there's no denying that the technology has been largely held back and (rightfully) seen as a gimmick due to the whole "unsightly glasses" requirement. Granted, this isn't the first time we've heard of 3D being experienced sans goggles, but the newfangled agreement between Magnetic and NEC could deliver just that to a display near you very soon. Reportedly, the duo is off demonstrating a 57-inch Enabl3D display at the Digital Signage Expo in Las Vegas, and while this iteration is admittedly aimed at commercial users, the promise of seeing imagery "pop more than a foot off the screen without the use of any special glasses" sure sounds intriguing. No word on when this stuff will be coming to everyday users, but don't be shocked to see marketers coming up with new ways to grab your attention (and frighten the young) with this in the near future.
